Recycling FAQ
ARE THE LABELS ONLY FOR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR?
Yes. Non-protective eyewear (reading glasses and regular sunglasses) are not accepted.
CAN I RETURN ANY BRANDS PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR?
You can recycle ALL protective eyewear brands with the SafeStyle recycling label, including goggles and face shields.
CAN I RETURN BROKEN PAIRS?
100% - We accept protective eyewear in any condition. Whether it is a broken pair, lenses or frames, we'll take it.
WHY CAN'T I RECYCLE MY GLASSES IN A STANDARD RECYCLE BIN?
Most safety glasses are made out of polycarbonate material which is not one of the recyclable plastics in Australia, which means it goes straight to landfill and can’t be put in a roadside bin.
WHERE WILL THESE GLASSES BE RECYCLED?
They will be taken to a specialised recycling facility in Australia.
WHAT WILL THEY BE RECYCLED INTO?
Because polycarbonate material is an extremely durable plastic, it takes a long time to break down in landfill but is a high quality material when recycled/ repurposed. This means, once recycled it can be used in a range of construction materials e.g. roofing materials, construction of bus shelters, hard hats and especially new eyewear.
I ONLY HAVE 1 PAIR TO RECYCLE WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We are working on getting some dedicated recycle bins in our retail stores for those of you who only have 1 - 2 pairs to recycle. Click here to find your closest recycle location. If there is no one near you, keep collecting old pairs and keep an eye on the location map as we are building this program in 2024.
