Is this for recycle bin for all protective eyewear or just SafeStyle
Did you know that over 10 million pairs of safety glasses are purchased for use each year in Australia? That’s 1 every 3 seconds or the equivalent plastic to approximately 30 000 000 water bottles… they’re not kerbside recyclable and you can’t put them in containers for change… We’re now collecting ANY BRAND of old, broken, discarded and scratched protective eyewear in an effort to reduce the amount in landfill. AND we’ve launched a competition to help you all collect. Collect & WIN. Help us collect half a million pairs so that we can recycle them back into something epic.
Why can’t I recycle my glasses in a standard recycle bin?
Most safety glasses are made out of polycarbonate or nylon material which is not one of the recyclable plastics in Australia. This means it goes straight to landfill and can’t be put in a roadside bin. These plastics are extremely durable, so it takes a long time to break down in landfill, they’re harder to recycle but when done properly they produce a higher quality material that can then be repurposed appropriately.
Where will these glasses be recycled?
The glasses will be recycled at the Terracycle facilities.
What will they be turned into?
The collected safety glasses are shredded and sorted by plastic material type. They are then mixed with other plastics to make recycled plastic blends, which are used to manufacture products such as industrial drainage pipes, storage boxes, and plant pots, or used as filler in extruded product applications such as lumber and sheeting.
How can I get a recycling bin at my workplace?

Is it only for protective eyewear?
Yes. Non-protective eyewear (reading glasses and regular sunglasses) are not accepted.
Can I return broken pairs?
100%. We accept protective eyewear in any condition. Whether it is a broken pair, lenses or frames, we'll take it.
I only have 1 pair to recycle. What should I do?
We’re always looking to reduce our footprint and that of our customers. So please first try collecting a few more at work, if unsuccessful then we have some dedicated collection bins in our retail stores for those of you who only have 1 - 2 pairs to recycle. Click here to find your closest Collection location. If there is no one near you, keep collecting old pairs and keep an eye on the location map as we are always building out this program to include more locations.
